Hawkeyes Roll Past Iowa State, 5-2, In Annual Cy-Hawk Series

DES MOINES, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team defeated Iowa State, 5-2, Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa, at LifeTime Fitness. 
 
Iowa’s win extends its lead in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series to 13-8. 
 
38006The Hawkeyes got on the board by sweeping the doubles point. Senior Zoe Douglas and freshman Yufei Long defeated Maty Canicini and Regina Espindola, 6-4, at the No. 1 position. 
 
No. 49 sophomore Elise van Heuvelen and senior Anastasia Reimchen followed with a 7-5 win at the No. 2 position over Erin Freeman and Annabella Bonadonna, which clinched the doubles point. 
 
Senior Montana Crawford and junior Adorabol Huckleby’s match was unfinished due to Iowa already securing the doubles point. 
 
Iowa State ties the match, 1-1, when Douglas withdrew from No. 3 singles with an injury. 
 
Reimchen grabbed the first singles point for the Hawkeyes at the No. 4 position by defeating Freeman, 6-1, 6-2, to give Iowa a 2-1 lead. 
 
Huckleby dropped her match to Margarita Timakova, 6-2, 6-3, which brought the match back to a tie at two points each. 
 
Van Heuvelen broke the tie for the final time by downing Espindola in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to give the Hawkeyes a 3-2 lead. 
 
Long lost her first set 3-6, but came back and forced a third-set tie breaker to top Cancini, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, which clinched the win for the Hawkeyes. 
 
Crawford closed out the match by defeating Bonadonna in a third set tiebreaker, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2.
