38006@SASHASCHMID ON STARTING CONFERENCE PLAY
“We have grown with each match this season, and I am excited to see the continued development
of the team throughout conference play. It’s exciting to start Big Ten play and compete against
excellent teams the rest of the way. I am looking forward to the tests that lie ahead for us.”

HAWKEYES ON THE ROAD
The Hawkeyes are 4-3 on the road. They grabbed four wins, two at Montana and SMU, one over
in-state rival, Iowa State, along with an upset over Notre Dame. They suffered losses at Washington
State, Illinois and No. 14 Northwestern.

HAWKEYES IN THE BIG TEN
Iowa quickly changed their stance in the Big Ten last year, and are hoping to continue that moving
forward. In the 2015-16 season, the Hawkeyes went 0-11 in conference play. Under new head
coach Sasha Schmid in 2016-17, they turned it around and posted a 5-6 conference record. Iowa
made it to the Big Ten tournament at the end of the season, which broke a two-year drought for
the Hawkeyes.

26-6 all-time against Penn State. Iowa took down the Nittany Lions 6-1 in 2017.

Friday’s match is the 52nd meeting between Iowa and Michigan. Michigan leads the all-time series,
39-12. The Hawkeyes last defeated No. 32 Wolverines in 2006, 5-2. Michigan has two ranked
singles players, and one ranked doubles team. No. 21 Kate Fahey with a 16-5 record and No. 81
Chiara Lommer with a 19-8 record. No. 42 Brienne Minor and Mira Rider-Hook have a 4-1 record
together this season.
