ARLINGTON, Texas — University of Iowa offensive lineman James Daniels was selected by the Chicago Bears in the second round of Friday’s NFL Draft at AT&T Stadium. Daniels was the 39th player picked overall.
A native of Warren, Ohio, Daniels is the 16th Hawkeye offensive lineman drafted since 2003.
Daniels, an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection by coaches and media, started the final 12 games after missing the season opener because of injury. The Hawkeyes capped their 8-5 season with a 27-20 victory over Boston College in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Iowa’s balanced offensive attack averaged 190.2 passing and 139.2 rushing yards per game.
Chicago finished 5-11 last season, fourth in the NFC North Division.
Iowa has had at least one player drafted in every NFL Draft since 1978.
Daniels is the 64th player coached by Kirk Ferentz at the University of Iowa to be selected in the NFL Draft.
