IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomore men’s golf student-athlete Alex Schaake was selected to the NCAA Regionals to compete as an individual in Columbus, Ohio at the Scarlet Golf Course on May 14-16. Schaake was one of 45 individuals to qualify for the NCAA Regionals.

The Columbus regional has 13 teams and 10 other individuals, including Schaake, whose teams did not qualify for regionals. The low individual from each regional will advance to the finals at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Schaake competed at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course two weeks ago in the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate. He tied for 21st at six-over-par (219) with a final round 69.

Schaake was awarded All-Big Ten Second Team honors earlier this week and led the Hawkeyes in scoring average (71.74), rounds at or below par (13), and top-10 finishes (4). In the spring, he was Iowa’s top-finisher in four of the six stroke-play events.

The Omaha, Nebraska, native competed in every event for the Hawkeyes and most recently tied for 18th at the Big Ten Championships. Schaake claimed runner-up finishes at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and Hawkeye Invitational.
