IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa head women’s tennis coach Sasha Schmid announced Thursday that Sophie Clark will join the University of Iowa women’s tennis team in the fall of 2018.
“We are excited to have Sophie join our team next fall,” said Schmid. “She’s an exciting player, a 6’1″ lefty with a strong serve and forehand. I really love Sophie’s enthusiasm for college tennis, and she is going to thrive in a team environment.”
Clark is from Swindon, England, and attended Isambard Community School. She won the 119th Torbay Open in December 2017 and is ranked No. 31 nationally in the 18-and-under age group.
“Sophie is committed to working hard to continue improving her tennis over the course of college,” said Schmid. “It’s going to be really fun to work with her and to watch her tennis game soar.
“I expect Sophie to make an immediate impact in both our singles and doubles lineup and really contribute to our program.”
Clark is the third Hawkeye to commit to the 2018 recruiting class. Samantha Mannix and Michelle Bacalla signed with the Hawkeyes last fall.
