4 Hawkeyes Selected for Young Women’s National Championship

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Four members of the University of Iowa field hockey team — Mya Christopher, Nikki Freeman, Emily Deuell, and Grace McGuire — were selected to compete at the 2018 Young Women’s National Championship, USA Field Hockey announced Friday.
 
The Young Women’s National Championship is a high-level, international structured competition that serves as the selection avenue to Junior National Camps and an opportunity for selection to the 2018-19 U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team and U.S. Women’s National Development Team.
 
It will mark the first appearance in at the Young Women’s National Championship for all four Hawkeyes. Christopher played all 18 games last season, registering 11 starts and three goals. Freeman started 17 contests and registered two goals and two assists in her freshman campaign. Deuell played in six contests last season, and McGuire graduated high school a semester early to join the team during the spring.
 
The Young Women’s National Championship will take place at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, from June 25-29.
