Hawkeyes Post Highest Final Team Ranking in Program History

Hawk Talk Monthly — May | Fight For Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its final men’s tennis rankings, which include the University of Iowa at No. 57 nationally and No. 5 in the Central Region. The national ranking is the highest final team ranking in program history.

Iowa won 16 matches in 2018, which are the fourth most in a single season in program history.

Individually, the doubles duo of Kareem Allaf and Jonas Larsen finished the season ranked No. 87 nationally and fifth in the Central Region. The pair won 17 matches at the No. 1 spot this past spring. The 17 wins in dual meet competition equal the most by a Hawkeye duo on court one in program history tying Martin Aguirre and Claes Ramel (1988).

Allaf was also regionally ranked in singles, coming in at No. 20. The redshirt sophomore totaled 19 victories, finishing the season on a career-best nine-match winning streak, including seven straight over Big Ten opponents. Allaf posted two wins over nationally-ranked opponents in 2018 (No. 75 Stefan Milicevic of Minnesota and No. 115 Antonioni Fasano of Northwestern).

Iowa returns six letterwinners from this year’s team, including five starters.
