IOWA CITY, Iowa — Three former University of Iowa men’s golf standouts, Brian Bullington, Sean McCarty, and Vince India, will play in this week’s John Deere Classic PGA Tour event in Silvis, Illinois. The trio placed in the top four of Monday’s John Deere Classic Qualifier at Pinnacle Country Club to earn a spot in this week’s field.

Bullington led all 86 players, firing a 9-under-par (63) on the par-72 course in Milan, Illinois. The 2015 Iowa graduate recorded eight birdies, one eagle, and one bogey. This will mark Bullington’s second appearance in the John Deere Classic, competing once before in 2016.

Tying for second place were India and McCarty at 7-under-par (65). India posted eight birdies and one bogey to earn his first appearance in the JDC, while McCarty shot a bogey-free round with five birdies and one eagle. McCarty will be making his second John Deere Classic appearance since 2013.

The John Deere Classic marks the second PGA Tour event in which McCarty has qualified for in as many months. In June, McCarty finished second in the PGA Professional Championship to qualify for August’s PGA Championship in St. Louis.

McCarty (1992-95) helped Iowa to the Big Ten championship as a freshman in 1992, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Year accolades. He was also a two-time All-Big Ten honoree and was an All-American in 1995. The native of West Branch, Iowa, was the first men’s golf student-athlete to be inducted into the National Iowa Varsity Club Hall of Fame.

Bullington was a four-year lettermen on the Hawkeye golf team from 2012-15. The Frankfort, Illinois, native was an All-Big Ten honoree in 2014 and a two-time All-Midwest Region honoree (2014-15).

India was on the Hawkeye roster from 2007-11 and has been competing professionally primarily on the Web.com Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamérica. India earned All-America and All-Big Ten distinction as a senior, while also being named the Iowa Male Athlete of the Year in 2011.

The John Deere Classic begins Thursday in Silvis, Illinois. Tee times for Thursday’s first round will be announced at a later date. Tickets can be purchased online at johndeereclassic.com.
