3 Hawkeyes Compete in Day 2 of ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Oklahoma — Three University of Iowa men’s tennis student-athletes saw action on Sunday at the ITA All-American Championships held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Piotr Smietana saw action in the consolation bracket on Sunday, defeating Fredrico Gomez in third set tie-break thriller, 6-7(6), 7-5, 12-10.

Both Jonas Larsen and Joe Tyler advanced to the Round of 64 in the pre-qualifying bracket yesterday, however both lost their singles matches on Sunday. Larsen lost (6-4, 6-2) to Jan Galka on Louisiana, while Tyler fell to Columbia’s Rian Pandole (6-0, 7-5).

Redshirt junior Kareem Allaf will face Clement Marzol of South Alabama in the Round of 128 in the qualifying bracket of singles at 9 am (CT) on Monday. Also, Allaf and partner Larsen, ranked 35th nationally, begin doubles action at 1:30 p.m. (CT) versus Northern Arizona.
