Iowa Finishes 8th at Royal Oaks Intercollegiate

CARROLLTON, Texas —The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished eighth at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the par-70 Maridoe Golf Club. Iowa posted a third-round score of 300 (+20) to finish with a 54-hole score of 884 (+44).
 
Top-ranked Oklahoma took the team title with a three-round score of 827 (-13). No. 34 NC State (857; +17) finished second and No. 6 SMU (863; +23) finished third. All seven schools that finished ahead of the Hawkeyes are nationally ranked.

Junior Benton Weinberg earned his first top-10 finish of the season, tying 10th with a 54-hole score of 215 (+5). He posted a 74 (+4) in the final round, firing four birdies. Weinberg birdied the seventh hole in all three rounds.

Junior Alex Schaake fired a three-round score of 216 (+6), tying 12th, for his team-leading fourth top-20 finish of the fall.

Freshman Gonzalo Leal Montero moved up 10 spots on the individual leaderboard in the final round with an 18-hole score of 73 (+3). He finished with a 223 (+13) to tie for 35th.

Senior Matthew Walker finished tied for 58th with a 54-hole score of 231 (+21). Redshirt junior Alex Moorman carded a 233 (+23), tying 64th.
