IOWA CITY, Iowa — For the third time this season, University of Iowa junior Laulauga Tausaga broke the weight throw school record (21.30m, 69-10 3/4) at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Friday.
Tausaga initially broke the weight throw record during her sophomore season with a mark of 19.93m (65-4 3/4) at the 2018 Meyo Invitational. Since then, she has broken her own record four times.
“It’s a great feeling, but there is still more to be done,” Tausaga said. “I’m trying to keep moving up in the national rankings and keep working to make the Big Ten Championships.”
QUOTING COACH WOODY
“Laulauga is one of the best competitors we have, not only right now on the team, but when you look back at the women’s history, she is one of the best we’ve ever had,” Director of Track and Field Joey Woody said. “It’s fun to see her continue to progress from the week before. She just knows she has more in the tank each week. Even today, she’s going to tell you she has more. She deserves it with the work that she puts in.”
“I like to look back and compare to where we were at last year,” Woody said on . “I like to see that we’re making improvements from where we were a year ago. We have to keep improving and people have to step up.”
