IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa freshman gymnast Evan Davis was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. This is Davis’ first career honor.
Last weekend Davis competed at the Winter Cup where he scored a season best on high bar to place fifth in the first session and earn a spot in the finals. He tied his season best (13.300) on rings to tie for 18th place.
In the finals, Davis contributed a 13.100 to his overall high bar score (26.750) to place eighth. He then notched season bests on floor (13.450; 17th place) and rings (13.350; 10th). Davis placed 12th on parallel bars (25.950), and 19th on pommel horse (24.450) and vault (27.100).
The Hawkeyes are back in action on Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m. (CT), hosting Nebraska at the UI Fieldhouse.
