Gustafson, Bohannon Named February Student-Athletes of the Month

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa Student-Athletes Academic Services (SAAS) recognized senior Megan Gustafson (women’s basketball) and junior Jordan Bohannon (men’s basketball) as February’s female and male student-athletes of the month. 

The honor, voted by their peers, recognizes student-athletes who have excelled not only in their sports but in the classroom as well.

Gustafson, averaged 30.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, and shot 71.3 percent from the field in eight of February’s contest. She led the Hawkeyes to a 6-2 overall record last month with wins over two ranked opponents (No.21 Michigan State, No.7 Maryland). She earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors three times this month (Feb. 4, Feb. 11, and Feb. 18) and was named to the Player of the Week
Honor Roll on Feb. 25. She was named ESPNW National Player of the Week on Feb. 11 and named USBWA National Player of the Week on Feb. 19.

Gustafson led the Hawkeyes to a Big Ten Championship on March 10. Iowa punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament. The Hawkeyes will host NCAA tournament games inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena March 22-25. Dates and opponents will be announced on the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, March 18.

Bohannon helped the nationally-ranked Hawkeyes to a 5-2 record during the month of February. Bohannon led the team, averaging 15 points and 3.6 assists in the seven games. He scored Iowa’s final 11 points in a 77-72 road win at Indiana (Feb.7). He scored the game-winning 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds remaining to lift Iowa to an 80-79 come-from-behind win over Northwestern on Feb.10. Iowa trailed Northwestern by 15 points with 4:30 left in the game. Bohannon made the game-tying 3-pointer with 28 seconds remaining and drained three more triples in overtime to propel Iowa to a 76-70 overtime home win over Indiana, Feb. 22. Bohannon netted double figures in five of Iowa’s seven games during the month of February. He played a key role in handing No. 5 Michigan its largest defeat of the season on Feb. 1 in Iowa City.

Bohannon and the Hawkeyes start Big Ten Tournament play on March 14, the game will start 25 minutes after the Penn State, Minnesota game at 6 p.m. (CT). Iowa will play the winner of Northwestern and Illinois. The game will be aired on the Big Ten Network.
