GymHawks Take 2nd at Quad Meet

CORVALLIS, Oregon — The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team finished second in a quad meet at Oregon State University. The GymHawks (195.425) defeated North Carolina (191.750) and Seattle Pacific (190.625), while falling to No. 15 Oregon State (196.550) on Friday night.

The GymHawks scored a team-high event score of 49.025 on vault and floor.

Junior Clair Kaji contributed two 9.850s on beam and floor. Freshman Lauren Guerin scored a 9.850 on floor and a career best of 9.875 on vault.

HOW IT HAPPENED

BARS
The GymHawks started off on bars with Kaji contributing a 9.725. Senior Nicole Chow contributed a 9.825 and junior Charlotte Sullivan earned a 9.775. Freshman Jax Kranitz notched a 9.750 to finish out the rotation for the GymHawks. Iowa scored a total of 48.775 on bars.

BEAM
Next up for Iowa was beam, scoring a 48.600. Kaji recorded a 9.850 for the GymHawks. The power of the freshmen stood strong for the GymHawks, with Allie Gilchirst (9.675), Bridget Killian (9.750), and Mackenzie Vance (9.725) all putting together solid routines.

FLOOR
The GymHawks found their spark in the second half of the meet. Iowa scored a 49.025 on floor. Kaji and Guerin both contributed 9.850s for Iowa. Killian and sophomore Erin Castle both scored 9.825s.

VAULT
Iowa finished out strong on vault with its second 49.025 of the evening. Guerin contributed a career-best of 9.875. Senior Misty-Jade Carlson tied a season high of 9.800. Chow also contributed a 9.800. Sullivan, Killian, and Castle all contributed 9.775s.

UP NEXT
The GymHawks travel to University Park, Penn., for the Big Ten Championships on Saturday, March 23. Iowa will compete in the night session.
