KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The University of Iowa soccer team bested UMKC, 1-0, on April 13. The win moves the Hawkeyes to 6-0 this spring.

“It was a rough game overall in terms of neither team being able to get much rhythm going offensively,” said Iowa head coach Dave DiIanni. “There were a lot of physical tackles, and it was combative overall. Both teams had chances to score, and fortunately we were able get one into the back of the net.  UMKC had a great chance that Monica Wilhelm made a class-A save on.

“We have talked a lot this spring about finding different moments and finding ways to be successful. We have done a nice job this spring of showing progression in all areas, something has come out of every game. Ultimately, the three biggest things are that we have competed hard, been good defensively, and won. Those are areas we are trying to celebrate as much as possible this spring.”

Senior defender Hannah Drkulec scored the lone goal, her first of the spring. Senior Claire Graves and redshirt freshman Monica Wilhelm each split time in goal, leading the Hawkeyes to their fourth shutout of the spring.

Iowa closes out its spring season April 21 at Missouri.
