IOWA CITY, Iowa — Three University of Iowa field hockey student-athletes — junior Nikki Freeman, and sophomores Meghan Conroy and Leah Zellner — were selected to the U-21 Junior National Team Camp, following the 2019 Young Women’s National Championship (YWNC) and National Futures Championship (NFC) in early June.
Freeman, Conroy, and Zeller were part of hundreds of athletes who showcased their skills at the YWNC and NFC in front of coaches and selectors for their chance to progress along the Olympic Development Pathway. The U-21 Selection Camp will take place this December at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Freeman, a native of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, started 15 of 21 games for the Hawkeyes in her sophomore season. As freshmen, Conroy started 13 of 21 games and Zellner saw action in all 21 games with one goal scored.
The three Hawkeyes helped lead Iowa to a 14-7 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament — its first since 2012.
