IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa swimming and diving team hosts its annual Intrasquad meet, the first event of the season, Saturday at 8 a.m. (CT) at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. Admission is free.
SHORT HISTORY
The Black team dominated last year’s Intrasquad meet in a 129-84 victory over the Gold team. The Gold team came away with a victory in 2017, defeating the Black team, 104-86. Black also took home bragging rights in 2015 and 2016, currently holding a 3-1 record over the gold team.
The teams are comprised of split rosters between the men’s and women’s squads. Captains hold a draft during the week of the meet each year.
HAWKEYES WELCOME 23 FRESHMEN
The Hawkeyes that will comprise the black and gold squads this year might look different than last season. The team welcomes 23 freshmen for the 2019-20 year, including 17 women and six men. Three freshmen come from outside the United States — Julia Koluch (Zelechow, Poland), Millie Sansome (Marlow, England), and Mohamed Neuman (Alexandria, Egypt).
