IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa field hockey team is seeded second in the Big Ten Tournament. In Thursday’s first round at 2 p.m. (CT), the Hawkeyes will face seventh-seeded Ohio State, who Iowa defeated 2-1 at home in the regular season.
The second round is on Friday, Nov. 8, followed by the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. (CT), which will be televised live on BTN.
HAWKEYES READY FOR ACTION
After winning a share of the Big Ten Regular Season Championship on Sunday, defeating No. 8 Michigan 1-0, the team sets its sights on tournament play.
“It was another fantastic opportunity for us to showcase what Iowa field hockey is about,” senior Katie Birch said. “We’re excited to be seeded second. We’ve worked hard this season and we’re ready to keep showing our team’s abilities. Ohio State is a fantastic team and it’ll be another great opportunity for us as a program. We know it’ll be a battle and after this past weekend the team will definitely be up for more.”
LAST YEAR’S REDEMPTION
The Hawkeyes advanced far in the 2018 tournament, defeating third-seeded Penn State (3-2, 2OT) in the first round and second-seeded Michigan (2-1) in the semifinals to advance to the championship. Iowa fell to top-seeded Maryland, 2-1, in the Big Ten Championship Game. Maryland holds a first-round bye in this year’s bracket as the one-seed.
If the Hawkeyes win on Thursday, they face third-seeded Northwestern or sixth-seeded Rutgers on Friday at 5:30 p.m. (CT). Iowa posted wins over both programs earlier this season. A victory on Friday would put the Hawkeyes in the tournament final.
COMING UP
Iowa’s matchup against seventh-seeded Ohio State will be streamed on BTN+ at 1 p.m. (CT).
