IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior Kathleen Doyle was named Big Ten Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the conference announced Monday.
Doyle earned the Hawkeyes’ fourth Big Ten honor of the year and her second weekly honor. Doyle earned Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll on Nov. 25, and fellow senior Makenzie Meyer earned weekly honor roll on Dec. 16 and 23.
The La Grange Park, Illinois, native scored a career high 33 points in 25 minutes, leading the Hawkeyes’ to a program-record 108 points in its win over Illinois (Dec. 31). Doyle shot 78.6 percent from the field and was 9-for-9 from the free-throw line against the Illini. In Iowa’s matchup at Northwestern, Doyle tallied seven assists, totaling 85 assists on the season and 602 in her career.
Doyle was also named Madness Big Ten Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.
Doyle and the Hawkeyes return home for two Big Ten contests this week, including Maryland (Jan. 9) and Indiana (Jan. 12) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
