Hawkeyes Set Multiple Season Bests at Oklahoma

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Despite multiple season-bests, the ninth ranked Hawkeyes fell, 403.250-411.600, to the top-ranked Sooners on Saturday.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS
Sophomore Evan Davis won the all-around with 81.950.

Freshman Amari Sewell scored season bests on the vault (14.550) and the pommel horse (11.900).

Junior Kulani Taylor scored his career-best on the floor (14.150). Tope earned a season-best on the vault (14.100).

After missing the first month of the season, senior Nick Merryman had a great performance in Oklahoma. Merryman posted season-bests on the pommel horse (13.250) and parallel bars (13.900). He also tied his season best score on rings (13.050) and garnered 13.200 on the high bar.

QUOTING COACH REIVE

“I am really pleased with tonight’s performance,” head coach JD Reive said. “There was great energy tonight and they were competitive. Evan Davis had an outstanding all-around meet; season bests for several athletes. Mandozzi did a great job leading the team. Merryman competed on all his events and two Hawkeye debuts for Hobson and Adams. We move to five-up/five count for the rest of the season and we are excited about it.”

FLOOR
The Hawkeyes finished the floor exercise with 69.200. Davis led the Hawkeyes with a score of 14.200. Taylor earned a career-best 14.150. Huang posted 13.850. Freshman Carter Tope scored 13.500. Brown earned 13.400. Freshman Noah Adams posted 13.150 in his debut for the Hawkeyes.

POMMEL HORSE
The Hawkeyes scored 63.600 on the pommel horse. Merryman led the team and posted a season-best 13.250. Tope scored 13.150, respectively. Davis garnered his season best (13.000). Huang earned 12.300. Sewell scored a season-best 11.900. Junior Addison Chung posted 11.650 for his performance.

RINGS
The Hawkeyes scored a collective 65.450 on the still rings. Davis earned a 13.600. Senior Brandon Wong posted 13.200. Merryman tied his season best score of 13.050. Huang and Tope both scored 12.950. Freshman Reuven Anderson posted 12.650. Sophomore Peyton Hobson made his season debut and scored 12.450.

VAULT
The Hawkeyes put together a score of 71.950 on the vault. Sewell led the Hawkeyes and scored his season-best of 14.550. Senior Mitch Mandozzi scored 14.500. Huang scored 14.400, respectively. Brown scored a season-best 14.300. Tope garnered a career-best 14.100. Davis posted a 14.000.

PARALLEL BARS
Merryman earned his season best on the parallel bars (13.900). Davis scored 13.800. Brown posted 13.500 for his performance. Mandozzi earned his season-best score (13.150). Tope scored 12.350. Huang earned 12.300.

HIGH BAR
The Hawkeyes finished the high bar with a score of 66.250. Mandozzi tied his season best of 13.550. Davis scored 13.350, respectively. Merryman and sophomore Alex Walther scored 13.200. Huang posted 12.950. Tope earned his season-best (13.400). Sophomore Drew Helberg scored a 12.300.

ALL-AROUND
Davis, Huang and Tope competed in the all-around for the Hawkeyes. Davis won the all-around with a score of 81.950. Huang earned an all-around score of 78.750, followed by Tope with 78.650.

UP NEXT
Huang travels to Las Vegas to compete in the Winter Cup Feb. 21-22. The Hawkeyes return the Carver-Hawkeye Arena to compete against No. 7 Illinois March 1.
