IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Big Ten office announced Wednesday that University of Iowa senior Laulauga Tausaga has been named Big Ten Women’s Field Athlete of the week.
Tausaga competed in just her second weight throw competition of the season on Feb. 7-8 in South Bend, Indiana, at the Meyo Invite. She threw 22.00 meters, 72-2.25, a mark that ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten Conference and eighth in the nation. On Day 2 at Meyo, she earned a new personal best and a first-place finish in the shot put. Her mark of 17.96 meters ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten and second in the nation.
The weekly conference honor is the second of Tausaga’s indoor career and the third for Iowa this season.
The Hawkeyes hit the road this weekend, splitting up between the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, and the Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock, Texas.
