IOWA CITY, Iowa — For the second straight season, three University of Iowa men’s tennis student-athletes are ranked in the Oracle ITA Division I preseason national rankings. Kareem Allaf is ranked No. 39 in singles, while the doubles team of Oliver Okonkwo and Will Davies are ranked No. 17 nationally.
Allaf’s No. 39 ranking is the highest the redshirt senior has been ranked as a Hawkeye. He enters his redshirt senior campaign with 146 combined wins in singles and doubles, 14 victories shy of the program record set by Tyler Cleveland. Allaf has amassed 85 career singles wins, which ranks second in school history. Last season as a senior, Allaf knocked off four ranked opponents and won nine of his final 10 decisions before the season was canceled due to COVID-19. Allaf’s preseason national ranking is believed to be the highest by a Hawkeye.
Okonkwo and Davies enter their third season as doubles partners. The duo bounced three ranked opponents last season, including the No. 6 ranked team in the country, and recorded 15 victories in the shortened season due to COVID-19. Davies/Okonkwo are the fourth highest ranked doubles team among student-athletes in the Big Ten.
