IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa junior Evan Davis has been named the Big Ten Co-Gymnast of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office. It is Davis’ second Gymnast of the Week honor and third overall Big Ten honor of his career.
The Houston, Texas, native earned a share of the accolade, along with Penn State’s Nick Mock, after winning the all-around in the Hawkeyes’ 402.000-400.500 victory over No. 4 Illinois on Feb. 13. Davis finished in the top five of all six individual events en route to an all-around score of 81.700.
Davis was the event winner on the horizontal bars (13.500) and he finished second on floor (14.100), third on pommel (13.200), tied for fourth on vault (13.950), and fifth on rings (13.400) and parallel bars (13.350). He set season-bests in four events and the all-around.
His floor performance contributed to Iowa’s 68.400 score, which tied the seventh-best floor score in school history.
Davis was previously the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week on Feb. 10, 2020 and he was the league’s Freshman of the Week in 2019. He is the second Hawkeye to be honored this season as Bennet Huang was the Gymnast of the Week on Feb. 1.
The sixth-ranked Hawkeyes host No. 5 Penn State on Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. (CT) inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
