3 Hawkeyes Named to B1G Preseason Watch List

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa field hockey student-athletes, Maddy Murphy, Anthe Nijziel and Lokke Stribos, were highlighted in the Big Ten Players to Watch list for the Hawkeyes’ 2021 spring season, the conference announced Wednesday.

During the 2019 season, Murphy, a senior forward from Riana, Tasmania, earned NFHCA second team All-American recognition after starting all 22 games and recording team highs in goals (12), assists (13), and points (37).

Nijziel, a junior defender, started all 22 games last year. The Eindhoven, Netherlands, native was named to the NFHCA All-West Regional team and was a second team All-Big Ten selection last season, recording six goals and 13 points.

Junior midfielder and defender, Stribos, started all 22 games last season. She registered 10 goals, five assists, and 25 points during her sophomore season. The Brussels, Belgium, native tallied three game-winning shots last season against Central Michigan, Penn State, and Michigan and was named NFHCA second team All-West Region.

The Hawkeyes will open the 2021 season in Virginia Beach, Virginia, facing Indiana on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. (CT) and Penn State on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 11:45 a.m. (CT). Both games will be live streamed on BTN Plus.
