IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field athletes Jamal Britt and Laulauga Tausaga have been named Big Ten track and field athletes of the week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Britt was named men’s track athlete of the week. He set career bests in the 110-meter hurdles and 200 meters last week at the Big Ten Invite #1. He won the 110-meter hurdles in 13.68, a mark that ranks No. 2 in the NCAA West Region and sixth all-time in program history. He ran the 200 in 21.22, a mark that ranks 33rd in the West.
Tausaga was named women’s field athlete of the week. She swept the discus and shot put evets last week. Her toss of 60.81 meters in discus leads the NCAA West Region and her shot put mark of 16.99 meters ranks seventh.
The weekly conference honor is the eighth of Tausaga’s career. Britt earned the conference award three times during the 2021 indoor season. This is his first career outdoor honor.
