Ingles Named to Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa freshman Meike Ingles has been named to Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week for her performance in last week’s Big Ten Tournament.

The forward from Shelby Township, Michigan, was honored after scoring the game-winning goal in the Hawkeyes’ 1-0 victory over No. 4 Penn State. It was Iowa’s first ever win in Happy Valley, the highest ranked win in program history and just the third victory all-time over the Nittany Lions.

Ingles also assisted on Jenny Cape’s game-winning strike in the victory over Wisconsin – a goal that capped the Hawkeyes’ improbable run to the Big Ten Tournament title – the first in school history. Iowa defeated the No. 2 seed (Illinois), No. 3 seed (Minnesota), No. 1 seed (Penn State) and No. 4 seed (Wisconsin) en route to the team title.

Ingles was dynamic in the postseason, scoring three game-winning goals and tallying an assist en route to Big Ten All-Tournament team honors. She was also named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Offensive Player.

The Hawkeyes will face Campbell on April 27 in Buies Creek, North Carolina, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Iowa is making its second consecutive and third NCAA appearance in school history.
