IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 4 University of Iowa field hockey team (11-5) received an at large bid for the NCAA Tournament as the fourth overall seed, playing their first match in the second round on Sunday, May 2 at 2 p.m. (CT) at Karen Shelton Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
“We are so excited and grateful to be selected as one of the three at large bids to the NCAA Tournament,” Head coach Lisa Cellucci said. “To receive the fourth overall seed is an honor, and I am so proud of this team and the work they have done all year to put us in this position. Now it is time to get back to work and get prepared to head to North Carolina.”
The tournament format includes 12 teams, eight teams play in the first round, while the Hawkeyes and three other teams, including No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Michigan, and No. 3 Louisville, have a bye and will play in the second round on Sunday.
The Hawkeyes make their third-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance as Iowa takes on the winner of the first-round matchup between Northwestern and Delaware.
Northwestern is 11-5 overall, 5-3 in the Big Ten, while Delaware is 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
