IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa fifth-year senior Alex Schaake was named Big Ten Co-Men’s Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. The announcement marks Schaake’s second consecutive weekly conference honors and Iowa’s third this spring.
Schaake tied for second at last weekend’s Robert Kepler Intercollegiate with a 54-hole score of 212 (-1). He and Northwestern’s John Driscoll were the top Big Ten finishers at the event, which featured 11 conference teams in a field of 90 golfers.
The Hawkeye veteran recorded 11 of the team’s 38 birdies en route to his fourth consecutive top-five finish. That birdie total was the second highest in the field, and Schaake’s par four average (3.97) also tied for second at the event.
Schaake was the medalist at the Hawkeye Invitational the week prior to the Kepler Intercollegiate and previously finished second at the Spartan Collegiate at Sea Island last month behind teammate Mac McClear.
Schaake shares the weekly honor with Driscoll. Wednesday marks the fourth Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor of Schaake’s career.
