Noel Advances to Championship Match at ITA All-Americans

CHARLESTON, S.C. — University of Iowa sophomore Alexa Noel advanced to the ITA All-Americans championship match after bouncing No. 56 Eryn Cayetano of USC on Saturday at the LTP Tennis Club, 6-0, 1-6, 6-3. The victory was Noel’s fourth consecutive victory in the main draw.

Noel, ranked No. 12 nationally and seeded eighth, will challenge South Carolina’s Sarah Hamner on Sunday at 9 a.m. (CT).

“A great win for Alexa today,” said associate coach Daniel Leitner. “She has been able to fight through difficult situations all tournament and today was another example of that.

At the Wildcat Invite, the doubles duo of Samantha Gillas/Michelle Bacalla bounced McColgan/Rabjohns of Northwestern (6-4) to advance to Sunday’s Flight 2 championship match. Also competing in doubles was Vipasha Mehra/Samantha Mannix, who lost to the tandem of Dukic/Arendt, 6-2.

In singles competition, Mannix topped Katarina Dukic of Chicago State (6-3, 6-3) and Bacalla outlasted Kiley Rabjohns in three sets (6-7, 6-4, 7-5). Gillas fell to McColgan (6-0, 6-4), while Arendt beat Mehra in three sets (7-5, 2-6, 6-4).

Iowa’s athletes conclude competition at their respective tournaments on Sunday.
