IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa rowing team competes Saturday at the Jayhawk Jamboree at Burcham Park in Lawrence, Kansas.
The Hawkeyes will race Creighton, Kansas State and regatta-host Kansas on the Kansas River beginning at 1 p.m. (CT). The regatta was originally scheduled for Sunday, but the threat of inclement weather moved the event to Saturday.
The Jayhawk Jamboree is a head race and uses a time-trial format. Boats will be launched approximately 10-15 seconds apart from one another and the boat with the fastest time wins the competition.
“The team is very excited to travel this weekend,” said Iowa assistant coach Katie Thurstin. “Our goal this weekend is to race hard and have fun. The varsity crews have spent the last few weeks in mixed lineups focusing on boat feel and rhythm and it will be great to see their efforts on the racecourse.
“This will be our novice squad’s first official race. As a former walk-on, it’s always rewarding and nostalgic to watch novice crews race. They learn and develop so quickly.”
In addition to the regatta, the Jayhawk Jamboree will entertain fans with food trucks, live music, a fun zone for kids and more.
