Hawkeyes Conclude Day One at Williams Cup

Wilmington, N.C. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team is in seventh place after two rounds at the Williams Cup. The Hawkeyes head into the final round at Eagle Point Golf Club with a 19-over par team score of 595 strokes.

Junior Mac McClear leads the Hawkeyes with a two-over par 146 through 36 holes. The Hinsdale, Illinois, native posted two rounds of 73 on the day. McClear heads into Tuesday’s campaign tied for 20th place.

Senior Gonzalo Leal Montero had the next lowest day for the Hawkeyes. Leal Montero opened play with a round of 77 before finishing with a second round score of even-par 72, the best 18-hole total by a Hawkeye on the day.

Junior Ronan Kleu finished eight-over par at 152. Freshman Ian Meyer and junior Garrett Tighe tied at 153, one stroke behind Kleu. Tighe is participating in his first fall event.

HAWKEYE NOTEABLES

  • McClear, Leal Montero, and Tighe each posted four birdies. Kleu (three) and Meyer (two) brought Iowa’s total to 17 holes below par on Monday.
  • Iowa’s 122 pars were the most by any team through two rounds; Vanderbilt was second with 117 pars. McClear’s 27 pars tied for the third-most in the field.

The Hawkeyes conclude play at Eagle Point Golf Club Tuesday morning. Groups will tee off holes one and 10 starting at 7:30 a.m. (CT). Tuesday’s round will wrap of the fall season for the Hawkeyes.
