Cary Named COSIDA Academic All-District

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa junior Samantha Cary has been named to the 2021 Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.

Cary carries a 4.04 grade point average while studying public health and sports studies. She is an academic All-Big Ten honoree, a member of the UI President’s List and a five-time representative on the Dean’s List.

Cary started 19 of 20 games and ranked second among Hawkeyes with 1,749 minutes played in 2021. She recorded a pair of goals and totaled seven points while leading a defense that allowed just 0.97 goals per game and registered seven shutouts amongst its 12 wins.

Cary is the sixth Hawkeye to earn Academic All-Region Honors from COSIDA. The others include Hannah Drkulec (2018-19), Jade Grimm (2012), Kaleigh Haus (2018-19), Sarah Mazur (2014) and Katie Nasenbenny (2013).

The 2021 Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team
Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
