LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team wrapped day two of the Watanabe Classic with one single win and one doubles win on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Samantha Gillas won her Flight 3 consolation singles match, bouncing Texas Tech’s Camryn Stepp (6-2, 6-4). Gillas advances to the consolation final.
In Flight 1 of singles, Barabora Pokorna fell to Long Beach State’s Zara Lennon (6-4, 6-4), while Michella Bacalla lost to Texas Tech’s Tomi Main (6-3, 6-0) in Flight 2.
Vipasha Mehra was edged by UNLV’s Salsa Aher (7-5, 6-4) in the semifinals in Flight 4.
In doubles action, Gillas/Mehra lost a narrow match in Flight 1 to Texas Tech’s Tiglea/Main (6-4). In Flight 2, Pokorna/Bacalla defeated Grand Canyon’s Del Marco/Ramkin (6-1) to advance to the consolation final.
The final day of the Watanabe Classic is set to start at 10 a.m. (PT) on Sunday.
