IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa men’s golf team will compete in seven tournaments during the 2022 spring season, including hosting the Hawkeye Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course, and the Calusa Cup in Naples, Florida.
The Hawkeyes will defend their team title at the annual Hawkeye Invitational, April 16-17, in their final outing before taking part in the Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Indiana, April 29-May 1. Iowa finished second at the conference championships a year ago, placing one stroke behind Illinois.
For the second consecutive year, Iowa will host the Calusa Cup, April 3-5. Second-ranked Oklahoma won the initial event in 2021, as four of the top eight teams in the national rankings competed in the field of nine teams. Oklahoma, currently the top-ranked team in the country, returns to defend its title. The field also includes Georgia (#13), Wake Forest (#14), Georgia Tech (#20) and Purdue (#22).
“We look forward to a challenging spring season against outstanding competition, while competing on nationally-recognized courses,” said Iowa head coach Tyler Stith, the 2021 Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year. “We have another outstanding field for our Calusa Cup event, and our guys look forward to hosting the Hawkeye Invitational and defending their title at Finkbine.”
Iowa begins the regular season Feb. 4-5, in Palm Coast, Florida, with Big Ten Match Play, where the Hawkeyes placed second a year ago.
Additional events on the Hawkeye schedule include the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 14-15) in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico, the Wake Forest Invitational (March 7-8) in Pinehurst, North Carolina, and the Schenkel Invitational (March 18-20) in Statesboro, Ga.
The Hawkeyes concluded the 2021 spring season at the NCAA Regionals, making their 11th NCAA appearance since 2009. Defending Big Ten Conference individual medalist Mac McClear returns for his junior season in 2022.
