IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa rowing team’s second varsity four was selected as the Big Ten Boat of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the league office. It is the Hawkeyes’ record fourth weekly honor this season.
The 2V4 earned the distinction after posting a pair of victories at the Big Ten-Pac 12 Challenge on April 29 at the Coralville Reservoir. The boat out-paced No. 15 Oregon State by nearly 12 seconds in its first race to notch its first win, finishing with a time of 7:48.67.
In race No. 2, the boat picked up another victory, posting a time of 9:01.45 to beat Central Florida and Minnesota.
The 2V4 featured Kaitlyn Hansen (coxswain), Paige Leibfried, Liz Blewett, Maggie Winegar and Ellie Shaver.
The Hawkeyes previously earned the Boat of the Week honors on March 30 (varsity eight), April 5 (first varsity four) and third varsity four (April 19).
Iowa begins the postseason racing May 15 when it travels to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championships.
