NORMAN, Okla. – University of Iowa juniors Mac McClear and Ronan Kleu are through 18 holes competing as individuals at NCAA Regionals in Norman, Oklahoma.
The two Hawkeyes are each battling for a bid to the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. The top individual finisher not on a qualifying team at the regional will advance.
McClear was two-over par on the day, positioning himself in a tie for 38th heading into the second of three rounds at Jimmie Austin Golf Club. Kleu shot 79 (+7) on Monday and is tied for 68th.
Top ranked Oklahoma sits atop the team leaderboard after the first round. Baylor’s No. 17 Johnny Keefer is the low scorer not from a team currently in the top five on the leaderboard to lead individual qualifying for the national tournament. Keefer shot 69 (-3) on Monday, putting McClear five strokes back.
