Legacy App Connects Former Hawkeyes

As another graduating class joins the community of Legacy Hawks across the country, The University of Iowa Football program is reaffirming its commitment to keeping athletes engaged and supported throughout their lives. Iowa football has announced an extension of its partnership with NextPlay, a Denver based software company, to continue providing the Hawkeye Legacy mobile app as a resource for current and former players.

“We make a commitment to supporting our players not just while they are here on campus, but also in their endeavors after school,” said Ben Hansen, Director of Football Administration and Engagement. “The Hawkeye Legacy app ensures that every player who puts on the Iowa jersey has access not only to our program, but to career support and a powerful alumni network for the rest of their lives.”

The Hawkeye Legacy app allows former players to have unparalleled access to the program that they helped build. Videos from the locker room, conversations with the coaching staff, special reunion events, and more are all available to Legacy Hawks no matter where they are. The app also includes a network of 600 current and former players to support each other with career advice, job opportunities, or casual conversation during a football game.

“I love the Hawkeye Legacy app! I think it is great to be able to connect with other alumni and share info about the current happenings in the program! It is very user-friendly and simple to navigate”

The Hawkeye Legacy app was launched in the fall of 2020 and has been a staple of the program ever since. In the first 18 months, Legacy Hawks have logged over 30,000 sessions and more than 15,000 interactions using the platform.

“I really think the Hawkeye Legacy team has done a great job with the app. Great way to keep former players like myself engaged with the current athletes.”
