Charlotte, N.C. — The three student-athletes representing the University of Iowa women’s tennis team at the Charlotte Invite wrapped up day two with a total of five wins at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
Pia Kranholdt and Vipasha Mehra started the day off strong with a 6-2 win over Brown (Charlotte)/Patel (UNC). Mehra continued the winning streak partnering with Anya Lamoreaux for the next round of doubles, beating Buyxk/Thompson of Clemson, 6-3.
The two newcomers and junior were also unbeatable in singles. Lamoreaux defeated Van Poppel of Charlotte in a hard-fought match, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4. Kranholdt then won in another three-set match against Brown of Charlotte, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Mehra bounced Schaffer of Davidson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, to end singles for the day.
The Hawkeyes will compete in the final day of the tournament on Sunday with one round of doubles and one round of singles.
