COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 21st-ranked Ohio State upset the fifth-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team, 2-0, on Friday at the Buckeye Varsity Field.
The loss is Iowa’s first in regulation this season as it drops the Hawkeyes’ record to 10-4 overall, 3-3 in Big Ten play.
The Buckeyes took the lead in the 26th minute, scoring on a penalty corner on a goal from Leanne Bough off assists from Grace Kim and Hallie Brost.
Ohio State scored an insurance goal to double its lead with five minutes to play in the third quarter. Sarah Charley was credited the goal off an assist by Sarah Charley.
The Hawkeyes lost despite out-shooting Ohio State, 12-3, and having a 5-1 advantage in penalty corners.
OF NOTE…
– Three out of four of Iowa’s losses have been in overtime.
– This is Iowa’s first loss against an opponent outside of the top-five in the national rankings.
– Ohio State’s win was the first in the series in eight tries. The Buckeyes last win came in 2015.
