COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sixth-ranked Michigan downed the ninth-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team, 3-0, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday morning at Buckeye Varsity Field in Columbus, Ohio.
Redshirt freshman Mia Magnotta made her first career start (and played in her second career game) against the Wolverines. She made three saves in the contest.
Michigan took the lead in the 10th minute when junior Erin Reilly found the back of the goal off an assist by senior Katie Anderson.
Tina D’Anjolell doubled Michigan’s lead midway through the second quarter, and they scored an insurance goal in the third quarter off a penalty corner.
OF NOTE…
– Michigan outshot Iowa, 16-3, and had a 6-1 advantage in penalty corners.
– The Wolverines shutout the Hawkeyes for the third time in four weeks.
– Senior goalkeeper Grace McGuire had started 55 consecutive games prior to today’s matchup.
