Iowa Caps Off Fall Season at Princeton Chase

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Iowa rowing team finished its third and final event of its fall season at the Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie.

The Hawkeyes raced three separate eights in the women’s open. The varsity A boat placed 11th, beating out the A boats of last year’s 13th ranked Rutgers and 16th ranked Duke. Iowa’s varsity B and C squads came in 19th and 27th, respectively.

Iowa split into six fours for its final event of the morning. The Hawkeyes’ A boat placed fourth, just a second shy of Harvard-Radcliffe’s A boat. Iowa’s B squad placed 10th, finishing just over eleven seconds sooner than Temple’s A boat. The remaining four boats came in 18th, 19th, 22nd, and 23rd, respectively.

The Hawkeyes will open the spring championship season in Tempe, Arizona on March 18 with an exhibition against Big Ten opponent Michigan State.

QUOTING HEAD COACH JEFF GARBUTT
“We are really proud of the team’s work this fall. Their offseason training and now their approach to better their fitness this fall season was tremendous, and as a coach there is nothing else we could ask for. The team has come on strong, and we look forward to continue our progress in the indoor training season to prepare for the spring championship season.”
