LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team wrapped up day two of the Watanabe Classic with one doubles win and three singles victories on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
In Flight 1 doubles, Marisa Schmidt and Samantha Mannix edged Utah’s Petchey/Mould, 7-6(4) to advance to Sunday’s final. Also in Flight 1, Vipasha Mehra and Daianne Hayashida fell to Masuda/Cook of Long Beach State, 6-2. Pia Kranholdt and Anya Lamoreaux dropped their Flight 2 doubles semifinals match to Young/Teixido of Utah, 6-3.
In singles, Kranholdt will advance to the Flight 4 finals after bouncing Long Beach State’s Sheena Masuda in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. In Flight 2 semifinals, Mehra fell to Alicia Melosch of Long Beach State, 6-1, 6-1.
Schmidt won her Flight 1 consolation singles match, defeating Long Beach State’s Mathilde Tranberg, 6-4, 7-5. In Flight 2 consolation semifinals, Mannix beat Rhona Cook of Utah, 6-2, 6-1. The two Hawkeyes will advance to the consolation finals. Lamoreaux dropped her singles match, 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 in the Flight 3 consolation semifinals to Lillian Mould of Utah.
The final day of the Watanabe Classic is set to start at 11 a.m. (PT) on Sunday.
