LAS VEGAS, Nevada — University of Iowa women’s tennis student-athletes competed in the final day of the Watanabe Classic on Sunday. The Hawkeyes posted two singles wins to conclude their fall season at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
In the Flight 1 doubles championship, Vipasha Mehra and Daianne Hayashida fell to Masuda/Ramstedt of San Diego State, 6-2. In the Flight 2 finals, Pia Kranholdt and Anya Lamoreaux lost to Nevada’s Zdravkovic/Ather, 7-5. Marisa Schmidt and Samantha Mannix fell to Skrobonja/Detkovskaya of San Diego State in the Flight 1 consolation finals, 6-2.
In singles, Schmidt recorded a win against Sarah Medik of Long Beach State in the Flight 1 consolation finals, 6-7, 6-1, 7-6. In Flight 2, Mannix lost, 6-3, 6-4, to Nevada’s Zita Kovacs in the consolation finals. Lamoreaux edged Samantha Horwood of Utah in the Flight 3 consolation finals, 6-2, 6-4. In the Flight 4 championships, Kranholdt fell to Coco Zhao of Nevada, 6-2, 6-3.
The Hawkeyes will open their spring season on Jan. 20 against Charlotte.
