3 Hawkeyes Named NFHCA First-Team All-West Region

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Three University of Iowa field hockey student-athletes – Anthe Nijziel, Lokke Stribos and Esme Gibson – have been named National Field Hockey Coaches Association first-team All-West Region honorees, it was announced Tuesday by the NFHCA.

Nijziel earned her fifth straight all-region nod – fourth straight first-team honor – after anchoring the Hawkeye defense that posted six shutouts and allowed just 8.8 shots per game in 2022. The first-team All-Big Ten selection scored six goals and had five assists, finishing third on the team with 17 points.

Stribos garnered her fourth career all-region nod – third-straight first-team honors – after starting all 20 games for a Hawkeye defense that allowed 1.1 goals per game in 2022. The second-team All-Big Ten selection scored two goals and tallied four assists.

Gibson earned her second straight first-team recognition and third career honor after starting 19 games in 2022. The England native, who earned second-team All-Big Ten honors, scored four goals and had four assists on the year.

The Hawkeyes finished the season with a 12-8 overall record and the team advanced to the Elite Eight for the 21st time in program history.
