Hawkeyes Keep a Winning Record at NIU Huskie Winter Invitational

DEKALB, Ill. — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team competed in day two of the NIU Huskie Winter Invitational, posting seven wins on Sunday at the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House.

In doubles action, Pia Kranholdt/Sam Mannix beat Doroteja Joksovic/Andjela Lopicic of Marshall (6-2) but was edged by DePaul’s Greta Carbone/Hannah Smith of DePaul (7-6). Anya Lamoreaux/Marisa Schmidt notched a pair of wins over Marshall’s Aisling McGrane/Gabrielle Clairotte (6-2) and DePaul’s Madelyn Yergler/Valentina Martin (6-4). Dai Hayashida/Barbora Pokorna lost a narrow decision to Jazmin Lerman/Izabela Heinzova of Montana State (7-6) before rebounding to defeat Northern Illinois’ Jenna Horne/Isabella Righi (6-1).

In Flight 1 singles, Schmidt knocked-off Erika Dimitriev of Northern Illinois (4-6, 6-2), while Pokorna fell to Marshall’s Doroteja Jokosovic (1-6, 6-4, 10-3).

Hayashida picked-up a straight-set victory in Flight 2 over Anastasia Rakita of Northern Illinois (5-7, 6-1). Also in Flight 2, Mannix was defeated by DePaul’s Eleanor Nobbs (1-6, 6-4). In Flight 3, Lamoreaux bounced Andjela Lopicic of Marshall (6-2, 6-3).

The Hawkeyes will finish up at the NIU Huskie Winter Invitational on Monday.
