Kenlin Named Co-Big Ten Gymnast of the Week

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa junior Adeline Kenlin has been named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the league office. She shares the award with Nikki Smith from Michigan State and Hannah Joyner from Rutgers. The honor is Kenlin’s first of the season and fifth of her career.

She is the first Hawkeye to be named Gymnast of the Week since 2017 (Melissa Zurawski).

The Iowa City, Iowa, native earned the distinction after posting at least a 9.850 or higher on each of her three events when competing in Columbus, Ohio, against No. 10 Ohio State on Sunday.

She returned to the Hawkeye bar lineup, after being out with a brief elbow injury. Her 9.850 helped the Hawkeyes to a season-best event total 49.200.

The junior earned a career-high 9.925 on floor, earning second place. This marks her third straight week going 9.900 or higher on the event. She ranks sixth in the conference and 17th nationally on the event with an average score of 9.908.

She earned a season-high 9.900 on balance beam to anchor the Hawkeye beam lineup that scored a season high 49.250. She also tied for second on the event.

Kenlin is the first Hawkeye to earn Big Ten weekly honors this season. She was a four-time Freshman of the Week selection in 2021.

No. 15 Iowa host No. 18 Minnesota in its home opener on Friday, January 27. The meet is set to start at 6:30 p.m. (CT) and will celebrate the 50 years of Iowa women’s athletics. Tickets can be purchased here.
