Hawkeyes Kick Off Big Ten Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving began competition at the 2023 Big Ten Championships inside the Donald B. Canham Natatorium on Wednesday.

The afternoon consisted of the 200 medley and 800 free relay events.

Iowa’s quartet of senior Kennedy Gilbertson, graduate student Sheridan Schreiber, freshman Scarlet Martin and sophomore Molly Pedersen finished 11th in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:40.79.

The Hawkeyes’ 800 free relay squad – freshman Sabina Kupcova, Pedersen, sophomore Alix O’Brien, and freshman Sila Ozkazanc placed 12th (7:24.56). Kupcova’s leading leg of 1:47.93 was good for a season-best 200.

Competition will resume with the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 1 meter dive preliminary rounds on Thursday morning at approximately 9 a.m. (CT).
