Henderson Earns Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa senior JerQuavia Henderson has been named the Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the league office. The honor is Henderson’s second of the season and the third of her career. She was Co-Event Specialist of the Week on February 8th.

The Peoria, Illinois, native earned the distinction after capturing the vault and floor titles against Rutgers on Feb. 18. She performed the first Y1.5 by a Hawkeye gymnast on vault to tie her career-high score of 9.925 and earn first place overall. Henderson scored her second 9.925 of the day on floor to capture her fourth-floor title.

She has eight individual event titles this season and is ranked 15th nationally on floor with an average score of 9.932 as well as tied for third on floor and sixth on vault in the Big Ten.

Henderson is the third Hawkeye to earn Big Ten weekly honors this season. Linda Zivat was named Big Ten Tri-Specialist of the Week on Feb. 1, and Adeline Kenlin was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 24.

The 20th-ranked University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team travels to Lincoln, Nebraska, this Friday to compete in Big Five Meet. Iowa will compete in Session I with Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, and Penn State. The meet is set to start at 7 p.m. (CT) and will be aired on BTN.
