“We got off to a great start this morning. We were ready to play, and I was really happy about that. We got off to a really hot start. Took care of the front nine. Overall, glad to be in the position we are in. Based on what I saw today, we didn’t play the par fives well enough… We have got good teams behind us, and we know that they are going to probably make a run at us. In order for us to maintain that lead, we have to play the par fives better as a team.”

  • Iowa’s 24 birdies lead the field after round one; counting junior Felipe Pedraza (whose efforts as an individual at this event do not affect team totals), Iowa saw four golfers make five or more birdies in the first round.
  • 277 (-11) marks a new season best team score for a single round.

The final two rounds at the Hawkeye Invitational will conclude on Saturday. The shotgun start is set for 8:30 a.m. (CT).
