Hawkeyes Fall At Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team, ranked No. 53 nationally, fell to No. 74 Northwestern, 4-0, on Saturday at the Combe Tennis Center.

The Hawkeyes (11-9, 6-4) dropped the doubles point with losses on courts one and two. Samantha Mannix/Vipasha Mehra fell to Crowley/Leong on court one, 6-3. On court two, Marisa Schmidt/Daianne Hayashida came up short against Hand/Pratt, 6-4.

In singles play, the Wildcats (10-12, 6-4) recorded victories on courts four, five, and six. On court four, Pokorna lost to Christina Hand (6-1, 6-1). Kranholdt followed with a defeat on court six to Aino Alkio (6-3, 6-3). On court five, Mehra took her opponent, Sydney Pratt, to a third set but ultimately lost (6-0, 0-6, 2-6).

Iowa will head to Champaign for its last regular season match. The Hawkeyes face Illinois at noon on Sunday at the Atkins Tennis Center.
